Of interest to me at least.
Hopefully of interest to you too.
After looking at my
list of stories, are you really surprised? ;-) This is the
granddaddy of science fiction magazines, the last living link
to the Golden Age. Asimov, Heinlein, de Camp, Herbert, and
other legends climbed to fame from its pages. Analog is
to science fiction writing what the Yankees are to baseball or
the Canadiens to hockey. And I'm not just saying that because
they print my stuff.
Writertopia's
John W. Campbell Award Page This is the annual
award for the best new writer in the SF field, named after
Analog's long-time editor of the 1930's through 1970's.
Look up who's eligible this year, and cast a ballot.
The Science Fiction and
Fantasy Writers of America Over 1400 genre writers
banding together to fight egregious contracts, slow royalty
statements, iniquitous writer scams, and all around
mistreatment and disrespect. They also give out the Nebula
Awards, because writers need a little encouragement with all
the egregious contracts et cetera out there. Oh, and lots of
suggestions for improving one's writing, and any other aspect
of one's career. (See egregious stuff above.)
SF Scope A
daily source for news in SF and related genres, edited by Ian
Randal Strock, a longtime pal of mine in the field. This site
keeps me a lot more connected to the field than I might
otherwise be.
WWWF Grudge
Match Why is an old, semi-abandoned humor site here
in a list of links vital to me? Go over to "Other Writings" for an explanation ... and
that should be a pretty big hint in itself.
Rifftrax The guys
from MST3K ditch the robot puppets, but not the comedy.
Mike Nelson and company keep mocking the movies, with MP3
files you synch up to the DVD (or whatever) that you're
watching. If you think Ed Wood was an easy target, get a load
of what they did to The Star Wars Holiday Special.
Their expanding universe of cinematic back-talk includes
scores of short subjects, DVDs with their lunatic commentary
added directly to the movie, live performances, and even a
section where you can upload your own comic commentaries on
movies and offer them for sale. And yeah, about that ...
